Warri Boys Association’s president urges Deltans to eschew violence at guber poll vanguardngr.com vanguardnews

Area Boys fight over the alleged distribution of money for votes at a polling unit in Alagomeji-Yaba in Lagos on February 23, 2019. – Nigerians voted for a new president after a week-long delay that has raised political tempers, sparked conspiracy claims and stoked fears of violence. Some 120,000 polling stations opened from 0700 GMT, although there were delays in the delivery of some materials and deployment of staff.

Okene added that any form of negative activity or anti-social behaviour will be inimical to a peaceful and orderly gubernatorial election if the electorate do not conduct themselves well at the polling booths. According to him, the Niger Deltans have always been known to be peaceful, law-abiding and very accommodating people who cherish freedom and peace. He advised that these virtues which have remained sacrosanct with the people should be upheld before, during and after the gubernatorial election; adding that election should not be seen as a ‘do or die’ affair.

“Let me again urge our people in Delta State to remain law-abiding, peaceful and orderly as we approach the gubernatorial election. It is also important that we know that elections should not be seen as ‘war’ but as an opportunity to elect capable and honest leaders that will impact positively in the lives of the people,” he said.
