Over 5,200 entries were submitted from 2,400 artists for a chance to be called BIC Art Master Africa champion. Interestingly, over half of the works came from Nigeria. BicArtMasterAfrica Artist PenArtist

This clearly explains why leading global stationery brand, BIC, poised to consolidate its goal of churning out new masters across Africa, expanded the scope of its yearly arts competition to make it the first continent-wide contest.

The competition, which aims to foster local creativity, called for African talents to create artwork using basically the BIC ball pen as their medium. The first two winners were from Nigeria’s neighbour, Benin Republic and they received 1,000 dollars cash prize, a personalised digital gallery space, and a chance to be featured as part of the company’s art collection, La BIC Collection. There were prizes for other winners. One ‘Lucky Influencer’ winner, among those that posted about the competition on social platforms using the #BICArtMaster hashtag, was also selected and rewarded with a cash prize.

He also said the company is not just about pens but their other products like lighters, shaving sticks, pencils, markers, colouring products etc. He added, “most times, I work in the dark so the pen draws out that desired light and helps me to express what is within, in a fashion that is loud and bold.”

He also urged them to form a community and mentor other up-coming artists so that Nigerian artists can do better in the 2020 competition that will be unfolded very soon.
