Some 800,000 people in a Sudanese city are in “extreme and immediate danger” as worsening violence advances and threatens to “unleash bloody inter-communal strife throughout Darfur,” top UN officials warned the Security Council.

War erupted in Sudan one year ago between the Sudan ese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces , creating the world’s largest displacement crisis.

The UN has said nearly 25 million people, half of Sudan’s population, need aid and some 8 million have fled their homes. A United Nations-backed global authority on food security said late last month that immediate action is needed to “prevent widespread death and total collapse of livelihoods and avert a catastrophic hunger crisis in Sudan.”Before flagging, please keep in mind that Disqus does not moderate communities.
