Former England midfielder, Paul Scholes has said that it would be better for Manchester United to play against Barcelona in the Europa League playoff.

Manchester United beat Real Sociedad 1-0 on Thursday, but their victory was not enough to finish top of the group and avoid a playoff.

Teams the Red Devils could meet in the playoff include Barcelona, Ajax and Juventus, having finished third in their Champions League groups this week. And among these tough teams, Scholes is relishing the prospect of the Red Devils facing La Liga giants, Barcelona.“Who do you want to avoid… I think Barca, I’d love to draw them, I’ve said it a few times, I’d love them to play against Barca, just to get the juices going, get the atmosphere going at either ground,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“I think they’re capable of beating Barcelona. On the other hand, they’re a really good team, we know that. “They’re probably the only ones who I’d think you would want to avoid, as much as I want to play against them.”
