Chelsea interim manager, Frank Lampard has responded to suggestions James Corden helped him to get the care-taker role at Stamford Bridge.
Graham Potter was sacked last month and Lampard – who was sacked by Chelsea a couple years back and by Everton earlier this season – was brought back to Stamford Bridge until the end of the campaign.However, reports emerged in England over the weekend, claiming TV personality James Corden played a major role to bring the former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder back to the west London side having become friends with the club’s American co-owner Todd Boehly over the past year.
Chelsea are in Spain to take on Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final on Wednesday and Lampard was asked about the reports. He replied, “I saw the headline about James Corden. I’m absolutely not aware if it’s true or not. But it’s obviously a great headline to put together, casually, from the outside.
“So I think when I look at the success of Todd Boehly, I think you have to respect that success and respect the idea that they will probably make decisions based on more than a conversation with one person.”
