The former Defence Minister, Retired General Theophilus Danjuma, has confirmed his attendance at the 2024 Nwonyo International Fishing festival billed to take place in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.Danjuma in his address insists that his presence is part of efforts in encouraging the preservation of cultural heritage in the state.
The former defence minister was nominated and given an official invitation by Governor Agbu Kefas to grace the famous festival and also serve as the chairman of the festival. He spoke when a high-powered delegation led by the state deputy governor, Aminu Alkali, visited him in his hometown, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, earlier.According to him, securing cultural heritage is a collective responsibility and as such it is important for him to attend the event slated for 19th and 20th of April 2024.
The Nwonyo fishing festival that has put Taraba State on the Nigerian and world tourism map, was halted since 2010 due to security concerns. The festival in the past have recorded the presence of Gen. TY Danjuma, Sen. David Mark, former Senate President, H.E Patience Jonathan, former First Lady, Dr Otuna Runsewe, incumbent DG National Council for Arts and Culture and the host of other prominent people in the country.
