The Trade Union Congress has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to reverse the recent increase in electricity tariff.

But speaking during the 2024 Workers’ Day in Abuja on Wednesday, TUC president, Festus Osifo, said it was unfair for Nigerians to pay high electricity tariff considering the harsh economic situation of the country.Osifo expressed dissatisfaction with the epileptic power situation in the country which is affecting the country’s economic growth.

“One of the pivotal factors constraining our nation is our glaring incompetence in managing this sector for the collective welfare of our citizens,” Osifo said. According to the TUC president, the plight of the power sector remains unchanged over a decade after privatisation of the sector.
