Solskjaer’s desire to reduce the age of the squad he inherited from Jose Mourinho, means United will not be exploring the possibility of signing Bale, 30. Zinedine Zidane may have been hoping to use the Welshman as bait, in his attempts to bring Paul Pogba to the Spanish capital. Zidane is desperate to sign Pogba, but United are holding out for a staggering £170m offer and will dismiss any offer that includes players.
On Sunday, the Madrid boss revealed the club are working on Bale’s departure, which he expects to happen within days.
