Photo: AFPNigeria Olympic Committee media officer, Femi Adetula, has informed that athletes that have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics will not go through the rigorous process of having to qualify and have nothing to worry about as their slots are intact and will represent the country when the major event eventually takes place.

The postponement was agreed upon after talks between Japan’s prime minister, Shinzo Abe, and the International Olympic Committee president, Thomas Bach, led to confirmation of a decision made inevitable by the COVID-19 pandemic. Adetula told The PUNCH that following the information from the President, International Association of Athletics Federations that athletes already qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics before the Games were postponed will get to keep their spots in the rescheduled 2021 competition, he could confidently say that any rumour of athletes being dropped for overage should be put to bed as it was not their making.
