As of the time of filing this report, labour leaders were observed arriving the venue for the meeting.
Among them are the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero, General Secretary of the Congress, Emma Ugboaja, and General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Nuhu Toro. On the government side, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajiabiamila, and ministers of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong and Nkeiruka Onyejoecha, respectively, are leading the negotiation.
Recall that the NLC and TUC had threatened to embark on a nationwide indefinite strike on October 3rd, 2023, to protest the fuel subsidy removal policy of the Federal Government. The meeting comes just few hours after President Bola Tinubu announced a N25,000 salary award package to low grade civil servants in the country, in his Independence Day Broadcast to the nation on Sunday.
