Stop! Fuku elegusi causes tuberculosis (TB)

But not all parts of the lung are healthy source of protein, as a particular part popularly called fuku elegusi among the people of the Southwest is also a pronounced means by which one could contract what is medically known as zoonotic tuberculosis, YINKA ADENIRAN writes.

On the average, between 550 and 600 herds of cattle as well as 700 to 800 herds of goats are slaughtered on daily basis in the facility. “But in doing this, we also have to take into context the fact that the health of the public is at risk. “Tuberculosis does not spare anybody, the big and the small, educated or non-educated, Imam of Pastors. The theme for this year’s World Tuberculosis Day is: “It is Time to End this Problem”. We all have to work together. It is time to end this emergency.”

To buttress their views, the Project Officer, Ibadan Central Abattoir Veterinary Services, Dr. Ibikunle Akanbi, explained that his team at the abattoir inspects all animals before and after they are slaughtered to ensure that no meat from the facility poses any health hazard to the consumers.
