The Senator-elect for Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, Dr Ekong Sampson, has urged Nigerians not to blame the colonial masters for the challenges confronting the country but to focus on managing the country’s diversity.

Sampson said though the colonial masters had their own shortcomings, the country must move ahead to build a nation of the dreams of our forefathers.

He started this on Saturday in Uyo,Akwa Ibom State while speaking at a one-day symposium tagged Open House’ organised by the Uyo Book Club with the theme: “Lord Fredrick Lugard – Hero or Villian: a paradigm on Nigeria’s post-inauguration democracy.” “At this point, we should allow Lord Fredrick Lugard and other colonial masters to rest in peace. Our major problem as a nation is the management of our diversity.’’

“If we expected that someone like Lord Lugard would love us more than we should love ourselves then we are living in dreamland. We must work hard to develop ourselves and not wait for foreigners to come and do it for us. “Nigeria is largely endowed and the big question is how have we been able to manage our diversity? Lugard came in his time and we all know the background to the amalgamation with lots of economic interest as it were. The question is between 1914 and now, how are we faring as a nation,” he said. All rights reserved.
