Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has expressed his disappointment regarding the recently-concluded 2023 elections.

“My trust has broken down completely and even the minimum restraint that we’ve learnt to expect from seasoned politicians has been jettisoned completely,” he continued.

Quoting the current Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, Soyinka stated that even though elections are contests, they should be carried out like festivals. “Elections should be keenly contested. But I still believe very much in what I call the Fashola Dictum. “They should be yet another aspect of the festive spirit of humanity – and this was anything but festive,” he said.

The Presidential and National Assembly elections which were held on February 25, as well as the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections which were held in March 2023, were marred by reports of widespread violence, voter intimidation, and logistics issues among others. All rights reserved.

Waiting for the 'Omo Ale' comments... since saying the truth in our society is now foolishness.

I have never known this man to be both faced or mouthed person, but now I am shocked how Prof want to end up to be now. Hmmmmmm!!

Weak call out

We were all disappointed

We’re disappointed in Soyinka Did he say he was outside the country during the whole elections and claimed he only heard about the current state of the country after he got back? That statement in itself is an abomination.

Not surprising!!!. That's his usual habit for decades. Only former President Babangida knows how to make Wole Soyinka keep quiet

In free societies, elections are indeed festive! Trumpets and drums fill the air and the pple are happy to speak once more! Here, the likes of Peter are calling the rather feast circle, a 'war' due to desperation and ill will 😩

Was wondering when Prof was going to show up

That's not what he said. His disappointment was with the campaigns and post election occurrences. He specifically refused to make any comment on the polls itself because of the pending cases in court

The elections in my place was peaceful, free, fair and reflects the wishes of my people.I just imagine what would have happened in other areas that made people complained so bitterly. I think it's about the people.

Finally!

i said this: “A truth that's told with bad intent Beats all the lies you can invent.” TRUTH IS JUST ONE

Yoruba Ronu
