Former Military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, was rumoured dead on Monday, October 9, 2023.

Veteran actor Olu Jacobs has been falsely rumoured dead more than once, and his wife Joke Silva has had to refute the claims.

On the 8th of July, 2022 the news broke out that popular veteran actor Pete Edochie was involved in an accident that took his life. The social media was abuzz with rumours of the former military ruler’s death in the early hours of Dec 15, 2019.He wrote on his Instagram page, “If you see such nonsense posts on Facebook, please report the owner of the account.”

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, said the “governor is alive and has been attending to state matters, as well as delegating state functions.”Adeyeye E. Ajayi, a personal aide to former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, debunked the rumours that the former Head of State is dead.Ajayi said Gowon is “still around and well.”
