Shelley Duvall, the acclaimed actress known for her memorable roles in “The Shining,” “Annie Hall,” and “Nashville,” has passed away at the age of 75. The news was confirmed by her partner, Dan Gilroy, to The Hollywood Reporter.
Despite her early success, Duvall withdrew from the Hollywood scene for two decades, only to return in 2023 with the horror film “The Forest Hills.”Her career began with the 1970 dark comedy “Brewster McCloud,” directed by Altman, marking the start of a fruitful collaboration. She continued to captivate audiences with roles in Altman’s “Nashville” and Woody Allen’s “Annie Hall.
In the 1990s, her acting roles dwindled, with Jane Campion’s “The Portrait of a Lady” being a notable exception. Duvall largely vanished from the public eye after 2002, a disappearance attributed to the aftermath of a 1994 earthquake that damaged her home and the stress of her brother’s cancer diagnosis.
