The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed the state Climate Change Action Plan for combating the challenge posed by climate change.

The governor on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the state’s eighth ‘Climate Change Summit’ at Victoria Island, added that the plan was a call to action as the world was at a point where climate change was no longer a theoretical threat, but “a very real phenomenon playing out before everyone.” Sanwo-Olu pointed out that the CCAP document reflected the goals of the Paris Climate Change Agreement which encouraged the use of zero carbon and low-emission in the transport sector.

He said, “Public transport reform is planned to reduce the number of personal vehicles on the roads by providing efficient alternatives in the form of low-emission buses and rail connections, while owners of personal vehicles are encouraged to shift to low-emission versions as well.” Sanwo-Olu explained that different strategies, which include changes in the energy, health and agricultural sectors, would be implemented by his administration to address climate change.
