The Federal Government has been urged to consider a downward review of the Value Added Tax or outright suspension in the meantime to reflect the current realities caused by COVID-19 pandemic.

A group under the aegis of the Nigeria Tax Justice and Governance Platform, made the call on Thursday in a statement in Ibadan and signed by its coordinator, Chinedu Bassey.

The statement read, “Following the adverse effect of COVID-19 on the socio-economic activities, the Nigeria Tax Justice and Governance Platform reaffirms its solidarity with the government and people as we go through these trying times together. “There should be inclusion of civil society actors in the various COVID-19 task forces across board to strengthen transparency, accountability and diversity in the process. There must be decentralisation of the task forces to meet geopolitical needs.”All rights reserved.
