Responders have rescued a middle-aged man, identified as Daniel Chibuike Bassi from commiting suicide. According to reports, Mr. Bassi attempted to jump down from a telecommunication mast of about 200 feet, located at Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State on Tuesday morning.

He was, however, rescued by a combined team of policemen, officials of the National Emergency Management Agency and men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency . The Guardian learnt that Mr. Bassi was mentally ill and has been taken to Gowon Estate Police Station for interrogation. Before climbing the mast, he was said to have called on people around the scene and informed them that he wanted to do a fellowship.

However, he was convinced by the operatives to come down from the mast and taken to Gowon Estate Police Station for interrogation. NEMA’s South-West Co-ordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the incident yesterday, said preliminary investigation showed that Mr. Bassi climbed the mast possibly to commit suicide, adding that, he is an aluminium technician and works at Aluminium Village.

He said: “In an interactive discussion with the Police, NEMA and LASEMA, Mr. Bassi seems to be incoherent and could not make a complete statement all along. We had to appeal to the police to leave the distressed man to settle down and calm down because he could not remember his age.

Why the naira is on free-fall | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World NewsThe persistent free-fall of the naira is an indication that none of the interventions being applied by the monetary authorities has worked. Otherwise, there would have been some respite for the beleaguered currency, even minimally. Cause Nigerians(Elite and common man) are consciously killing the Naira Because Fulani janjaweeds and cows dominates the presidency.. Carve out $10 billion bonds out of the present external reserves to support local production of specific goods that the majority use daily & protect those products against imports. The remaining $25 billion is a guarantee for imports of luxury items. Then peg Naira to the dollar.
