The House of Representatives, in collaboration with the United States Department of State through the US embassy in Nigeria and the youth advocacy group

, in collaboration with the United States Department of State through the US embassy in Nigeria and the youth advocacy group FlexSaF Foundation, has empowered 50 Nigerian youth activists.

She highlighted the necessity of equipping a new generation of activists with the appropriate tools and empowering them through sustainable programs. “What we aim to achieve by bringing our voices together is to improve a little bit of what they did, but also be innovative in our approach, using the tools that they didn’t have in the past to do our own activism with digital tools, in addition to other platforms.

The 37-year-old federal lawmaker said it is impressive and encouraging to see young people come together at a time when the country is facing socio-political and economic challenges to discuss bringing ideas together through activism to build a better future. On her part, Nabila Aguele, a former Special Adviser to former Ministers of Finance and Budget and National Planning, explained the importance of youth activism in nation building saying it is not all about noise making, hooliganism, or destructive protests.

Saying that the Nigerian youths are active in the advocacy space already, Aguele, however, noted that more of the event of the day is required because “The most effective way to go about it is to build a community in activism and to give them the tools to advocate and development the movement from the space of knowledge in a way that can actually inform policymakers.”
