The House of Representatives is set to probe a former Director General of the National Pension Commission , Mrs Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, for alleged breach, abuse and violations of the provisions of the Public Procurement Act 2007.
The probe panel, called the “Committee on Public Procurement,” is different from the ad hoc committee’s investigation into the activities of PenCom from April 2017 to date under the former chairmanship of Mrs Deborah Agbonayinma. A letter our correspondent cited on the matter reads: “In pursuance of the powers conferred on the National Assembly by sections 88 and 89 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 , which entitles the National Assembly to conduct investigations into any matter with respect to which it has power to make laws and to investigate the conduct of any Ministry, Department and Agency in disbursements and administrations of funds appropriated and based on the Standing Rules, Order...
“In line with Referral/Resolution HR.187/05/2018 of May 28, 2019, the House Committee on Public Procurement shall be holding a public hearing in respect of the above investigation and has listed procurements conducted by the commission for the above duration with companies listed in the advert for the public hearing.
“In the light of the above, the Director General of the National Pension Commission is hereby invited to submit a memorandum/position paper and appear in person at the investigative public hearing. All correspondences/submissions should be in 20 copies with a soft copy attached latest by May 14, 2019.”
