The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to increase the annual statutory allocation to the National Veterinary Research Institute in the 2022 budget estimates.

They also urged that the Ikire Outstation of the institute be developed and upgraded into an Agricultural Based Vocational Training Center and a Livestock Training Center to empower Young School leavers and farmers.These resolutions followed a motion by Taiwo Olukemi Oluga on the need to upgrade facilities at the institute.

They further noted that the mandate of the institute has been expanded to encompass a broad range of activities to support animal production and health in Nigeria and beyond, and include: research into all aspects of animal diseases, treatment and control; development and production of animal vaccines to meet national and regional demands; provision of surveillance and diagnosis of animal diseases in Nigeria; introduction of ‘exotic’ livestock to improve egg, meat and milk production; provision...
