THE House of Representatives is seeking to amend the Constitution to create a total of 111 additional seats in the National Assembly exclusively for women.

More seats will also be created in the State Assemblies to allow more female participation in politics and governance. This is being proposed in a bill sponsored by the Deputy Chief Whip, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha and 85 other members, which passed second reading at the House on Wednesday. The bill is titled, “A Bill for an Act to Alter the Provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, to create Additional Special Seats for Women in the Federal and States Legislative Houses; and for Related Matters.”Each of the 36 states currently have three Senate seats and a representative of the Federal Capital Territory, while membership of the House is based on the population size of each state.

The bill is now seeking to create an additional Senate seat for each state including the FCT, making 37 extra seats and bringing the total seats to 146.

U that u are there before wot is the out come of ur present there u are just collecting nigeria money useless government

Hope it is also in the BILL where the funds for all these will the generated? From a broke state like Nigeria? Is the cost of governing not too high? Or will the so called men shed their weights? That's what I expect, instead of creating more seats.

Very useless set of people, Nigeria is boiling, and you are talking of bringing women into politics. Is that what will solve the current problem?

111 and eleven more thieves coming....🤔

With which money. Stop this junkerteering game of yours

And financed with which funds? We are complaining of reducing cost of governance and here they are increasing it. Additional wardrobe allowance for 111 people, additional 111 cars, 111 jumbo salaries, additional 111 shenanigans & most of all, additional 111 rubber stamps

These guys have ran out of ideas. Do you have to create additional seats because of women? To further increase the cost of governance. If you must reserve seats for women then reduce the number of male members

And so what does that has to do with the situation on ground

benigbakpa We’ve an already over funded NASS and they’re still planning on creating additional seats... Please I hope it’s not true

Another political madness! gender equality for 'political correctness' lame! The Youths, equally needs 1 seat each from every state. The physically challenged, equally need 1 seat for representation, from each state. Nigeria is broke, but not their stomach & survival.

We are talking about insecurity, while you're there creating another seats in the house, what kind of people are you🤔🤔🤔 Reduced your jumbo salary and fund the security votes, recruits more soldiers and police, and see if these problems will not be surmounted.

Please remember the youths too ooooo for just only 10 seats, not much abi🤷🏽🤷🏽🤷🏽🏃🏃🏃

Useless thieves

Who will pay there salary

Another cash out 😂 Nigeria stop amazing

This people are from being serious and concern about our painful economic realities in Nigeria. While we talking of overbloated cost of governance, the reps are trying to increase the burden. They only know how to play politics.

Given women more chance is good, but why additional 111, that's more governance cost, remove 111 men, replace them with women and save public funds.

Misplaced priorities. No Government official is sane again o, just a handful. Nigeria just activated the self-destruct button.

So Nigeria can borrow money to pay u guys, infact get table for more men and women

More money. 😂😂 this reps dey dey on a steady cororado

Stop wasting our money people are suffering out there

They can't even solve the current problem in Nigeria but to increase the problem. Ride on guys. Judgement day awaits all.

Nigeria 😢😠😡

Meanwhile, Nigeria Judiciary workers are on strike, nobody is bothered.

So 111 seats for woman and 109 seats for Men. This bill is already stupid though I understand it helps woman empowerment. It is still wasteful and doesn't represent what democracy stands for

Where will the budget for 111 additional seats come from?

How to waste Nigeria's resources 101
