The House of Representatives has condemned international oil companies for neglecting communities hosting their oil and gas facilities.

The Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum Resources, Preye Oseke, in a letter addressed to the managing director of Eni Group, urged oil companies to support host communities in Nigeria.

In the letter, Oseke said although the federal and state governments, corporate entities, non-governmental organisations and public-spirited individuals had assisted some of the affected communities, this was little. “Sadly, however, none of the foregoing efforts was directed specifically at host communities of oil and gas facilities.”
