President Barrow On Course For A Landslide Victory In Gambia Election | Sahara Reporters

Gambia President Adama Barrow is on course for a resounding election win, partial results from the election commission showed on Sunday.Counting has been underway since Saturday after Gambians voted in the first presidential election in the tiny West African nation since former dictator Yahya Jammeh fled into exile.The election is being closely watched as a test of the democratic transition in The Gambia, where Jammeh ruled for 22 years after seizing power in a bloodless coup in 1994.

Many voters in the nation of more than two million people are hoping for an improvement in their living standards. Barrow is running on a continuity ticket, pointing to infrastructure projects completed under his watch, as well as increased civil liberties.Speaking as he voted in Serekunda, near Banjul, Darboe thanked God, saying"he has given me the strength to conduct my country".

He also served as foreign minister and then vice president under Barrow, before stepping down in 2019.
