‘Power Belongs To The People,’ Atiku Reacts To Supreme Court Verdict On Bayelsa Poll

The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, has described the Supreme Court’s declaration of Douye Diri as the govenor-elect of Bayelsa State as an indication that power belongs to the people.

While reacting to the verdict, Atiku in a statement on his Twitter handle, expressed joy at the court’s declaration.Atiku stated that the ruling is a confirmation of the peoples mandate on Diri and the PDP, adding that he is confident the incoming leader would do well. According to him, “Senator Douye Diri had cause to visit with me before the elections and received my blessings and counsel. I am fully satisfied that he has what it takes to make Bayelsa the ‘glory of all lands’. His intellect, personality and character, are a credit to Bayelsa and the PDP.”

Furthermore, the former Vice President called on the people in Bayelsa to back their new leader to bringing development and prosperity to the state, as he lauded the Supreme Court for showing “consistency in its judgments.”

Power belongs to the supreme Court and the rule of law.

....till he's president 🙄.

Democracy is in danger and continue protest to US and UK embassy.supreme court judgement was not about the election results, but forging certificate by the deputy governor

Power has been truanted by the SC.

Even if you have to disgrace yourself it shouldn't be this obvious na! Did the majority of voters caste their vote for PDP? It was clear the election was free and fair sir.

But the people did not vote PDP’s Diri.

I never expected such comment from u Sir. Pdp lose woefully even if d election is conducted 10 times Lyon will still win. What transpired is due to d lack of integrity from the political class

Did the sour looser respond last month after the imo verdict?

The Rear Admiral also knows better laws than the Supreme Court

There goes Mr desperado. Power belongs to which people? Did the good people of Bayelsa vote for PDP's candidate? atiku keeps displaying his ignorance to the whole world just because of 2023. Thank God democracy is not in danger.

Bayelsa People, I greet you. Kogi People are eager for same o. What happened in Kogi is worse than Bayelsa's.

To the people? When the winner was decided at the court by odili wife and her crook friends and not at the polling booth? Atiku u are just looking for relevance.

Is that fact a truism in the Nigerian context? For power belongs to the Courts, not the masses. H.E, your case is a practical example. Until we scrap INEC and institute electronic voting is adopted. It will all be rhetorics. think
