The Senate has described the assent of the Petroleum Industry Bill by President Muhammadu Buhari as a major victory that has the potential of bailing

Nigeria out of its economic predicament and an act that will enable the country to make the most of economic gains of the oil industry for the benefit of Nigerians.

Basiru emphasised that efforts at reaching this stage had been a protracted affair as the Bill, which was first initiated in 2003 was subjected to ping pong affair between the previous legislatures and the executive. He attributed the success of the assent of the Bill which is now an Act, to the laudable cooperative efforts of participating sectors in the process and also the non-confrontational policy of the present National Assembly.
