Hyacinth Alia and Babagana Zulum, governors of Benue and Borno, respectively, on Saturday received the good governance award from the Nigerian Union of Journalists .At the event which was held in Abuja on Saturday, the Benue governor was recognised for his advocacy for the masses and human rights while Zulum received the award for good governance in education.
Umar Audu, a journalist with the Daily Nigerian newspaper, won the Pius Anyim prize for best investigative reporter of the year.He won the award for his undercover report that exposed a syndicate that sells substandard degree certificates from universities in Cotonou, Benin Republic to willing buyers.
The report generated reactions from Nigerian authorities, resulting in the suspension of accreditation for degree certificates from Benin and Togo, and the National Youth Service Corps introducing mandatory use of the national identity number for registration and mobilisation.
