Pat Utomi identifies threats ‘suffocating’ Nigeria’s democracy, legitimacy

Pat Utomi, the leader of the National Consultative Front, NCfront, has highlighted some issues that threaten the legitimacy of Nigeria’s democratic order.

In a statement he signed, Utomi warned that if those trends were not checked, it could spell doom for Nigeria’s legitimacy and democracy. “Our goal is to check the slide and restore popular trust in Democratic way as well as in our institutions, currently being suffocated by the politics of State capture and power erosion with attendant consequences, which include violence in Nigeria at large, which begs the question of the traditional definition of the State as the sovereign with a monopoly of use of violence.
