Parliament workers in Nigeria have berated Speakers of the State Houses of Assembly for not pressuring their state governors to sign the local government

The workers said that the action of the state lawmakers in foot-dragging on autonomy for the third tier of government is a dis-service to the masses that voted them to their offices.

Their position was contained in a communique signed by the National President, Comrade Mohammed Usman and Secretary General, Comrade Hammed Awobifa respectively, after the 19th National Executive Council, NEC meeting of the association held in Abuja. “National Executive Council, NEC in session is disappointed at the Speakers of the Houses of Assemblies lackadaisical attitude for failing to pass the necessary legislations, and for their inability to influence the Governors to sign the same and set up necessary apparatus for the proper implementation of the autonomy.

They, however, threw their weight behind the extension of service by five years for the National Assembly and the State Houses of Assemblies staff members.
