Internal crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress played out again on Saturday as the state congress of the party across the country was marred by tension and parallel congresses in some states.
In Kano State, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje led-faction held their congress at Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, while the faction led by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, Senator Barau Jibrin, and House of Representative members, Sha’aban Sharada, Tijjani Jobe, Haruna Dederi, among others held theirs at Janguza town, in the Tofa Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking at the stadium, Ganduje declared that any other congress was illegal, insisting that Sani Abacha Indoor Sports Hall was the only venue recognised by the party’s national headquarters and the Independent National Electoral Commission. APC members loyal to Senator Ibrahim Shekarau subsequently conducted their congress at Janguza and elected Ahmadu Haruna Zago, as Chairman of the party in the state.Although some top chieftains of the party had opted for a consensus candidate to be the chairman of the party zoned to the Bauchi South Senatorial District, some members opposed it.
