International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach speaks at the opening of a meeting of the executive board at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne on March 3, 2020. – The COVID-19 which has already killed more than 3000 people in the World will be at the center of a meeting of the International Olympic Committee on March 3 and 4, 2020 in Lausanne less than five months before the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Tokyo.
Many sporting events around the world have either been cancelled or postponed in the wake of the spread of the COVID-19 virus. “A joint task force had already been created in mid-February, involving the IOC, Tokyo 2020, the host city of Tokyo, the government of Japan and the World Health Organization ,” the IOC said.
The IOC also welcomed the close collaboration and flexibility between sporting federations, Olympic committees and governments with regard to the preparations for the Games, and particularly the qualification events.
