Popular businessman, Mr Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has clinched the 2021 Man of the Year award.

Cubana, who has had a lot of mentions in the media in recent times, defeated Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Mr Tony Elumelu, Chairman UBA Group and Mr Abdul Rabiu, Chairman and founder of BUA Group to clinch the position. News Agency of Nigeria reported that the businessman was voted by Nigerians at home and in the diaspora via online platforms in a 14-day Leadership Excellence Awards.

The Cubana Group boss emerged winner with 2,667,845 votes, while Makinde, Elumelu and Rabiu had 1,015,224, 848,652 and 819,562 votes respectively. Obi Cubana, who hails from Oba, a community in Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra, is known for his philanthropy and humanitarian gestures. He was recently reported to have empowered 300 youths engaged in business with N1m each after videos of his mother’s burial went viral.
