Fans across the country have kicked against the resumption of the Nigeria Professional Football League without crowd.

The League Management Company recently proposed four possible options to end the NPFL season following its suspension since March, as a result of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Our correspondent however, spoke to some fans of the NPFL, who disagreed with the decision to go ahead with the play-offs, except the matches would be shown on TV for fans to watch. Arowolo Omotade said, “You cannot take away the role of fans at match venues. This COVID-19 has showed us that. Say whatever you like about Nigerian fans at match venues. One thing has been proven and that is the fact that you can never enjoy football matches without them. Take a look at some of the matches that have been played in an empty stadium, then you will appreciate the presence of fans.”

“I read where the chairman, Shehu Dikko, was proposing play-offs but I don’t think it is good enough because the matches will most likely be played behind closed doors and we still won’t have the opportunity to see the matches on television.
