The Director-General of NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside, decries the high level of poverty that is engendering crime and also making Nigeria to be perceived as the piracy capital in the globe. ICYMI Nigeria

The Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency , Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has decried the high level of poverty that is engendering crime and also making Nigeria to be perceived as the piracy capital in the globe.

Peterside, who spoke in Abuja yesterday during 2019 budget defence session for the agency before the Senate Committee on Maritime, said Nigeria, adjudged to be the headquarters of poverty in the world, is also perceived to be the headquarters of piracy worldwide. He made the submission in response to a poser on why NIMASA’s contributions into the Consolidated Revenue Fund in 2018 dwindled by N6 billion compared to the N22 billion remitted in 2017, saying that maritime crime was largely responsible for the fall in revenues.
