Recall that Buhari had in 2017 presented the bill to the Senate and the House of Representatives seeking to transfer the control of water resources from all the states of the federation to the Federal Government. The bill had since its presentation at the two legislative chambers generated controversy across the country as many Nigerians rejected the bill but the Buhari-led government had insisted on the passage of the bill into law by the 9th National Assembly lawmakers.

But the rejection of the bill on Tuesday by the Senate has put an end to the controversy generated by the bill among governors and federal lawmakers mainly from the southern part of the country, PUNCH reports.
