1. Nigeria, Saturday qualified for the quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations, after they defeated Cameroon 3-2. Odion Ighalo opened scoring in the 19th minute, after his shot was deflected in by Banana. The Indomitable Lions fought back to lead 2-1 before the break. However, Gernot Rohr’s men turned it around with two quick goals from Ighalo and Alex Iwobi.
3. Tragedy struck in the riverine community of Biagbini in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Saturday following the death of a 70-year-old woman and her four grandchildren in an inferno. According to an eyewitness, who gave the name of the deceased grandmother as Moyo Jide, the grandchildren identified as Jennifer, 3; Gbana, 7; Biddaddy, 5 and Wisdom, 9 were all consumed by the fire, which allegedly started from the kitchen.
5. Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, was shown a straight red card, during their Copa America semi-final win against Chile on Saturday. Argentina won the game 2-1. In the 38th minute, Messi tussled with Gary Medel for a loose ball and Mario Diaz de Vivar from Paraguay deemed it to be bad enough and sent off both players.
7. Parents of Muslim students at the International School, University of Ibadan, under the umbrella of International School Ibadan Muslim Parents Forum have called on well-meaning Nigerians to call Principal of the school, Mrs. Phebean Olowe, to order in order to avert crisis in the school.
