1. Popular singer and song writer, Lanre Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan died yesterday after battling cancer of the throat. His death was confirmed in a statement issued by a family member, Dr Kayode Fasasi.

The Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai has declared Monday, July 12 as a public holiday to honour a former Deputy Governor of the state, Arch Barnabas Bantex, who died on Sunday. This was contained in a statement issued by Muyiwa Adekeye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication.

5. The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs , Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced that Sunday, July 11, will be the first day of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH. The directive was contained in a statement by by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.

7. Unspecified number of persons have been killed in a communal clash that broke out between Ipav and Yandev communities in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Anene Sewuese Catherine confirmed the incident.
