Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

1. Popular singer and song writer, Lanre Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan died yesterday after battling cancer of the throat. His death was confirmed in a statement issued by a family member, Dr Kayode Fasasi.

3. The Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai has declared Monday, July 12 as a public holiday to honour a former Deputy Governor of the state, Arch Barnabas Bantex, who died on Sunday. This was contained in a statement issued by Muyiwa Adekeye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication.

5. The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs , Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced that Sunday, July 11, will be the first day of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH. The directive was contained in a statement by by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.

7. Unspecified number of persons have been killed in a communal clash that broke out between Ipav and Yandev communities in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Anene Sewuese Catherine confirmed the incident.
