, Dr. Adedamola Dada, as one of the few medical chiefs who have managed scarce resources to make a big difference in the health sector.
Also, by the time we came in, there were a lot of debts; we had lost credibility with our suppliers. So, they were not going to advance us with any credit because we were owing them huge sums of money. The concept of out of stock in the pharmacy was quite high because we were owing the pharmaceutical companies a lot of money and had become bad business for those who were supplying us drugs. The same challenges we had in the other service point areas.
The ICU is three-bedded and very well equipped. The report I get from there is that we have the best public sector ICU in the city of Lagos, and we also don’t send back any patient that needs ICU care because for us, when you need ICU care, you are between life and death. It is not a financial decision at that time but more of a moral and clinical decision.
Not only that, today, we have 26 retainer companies that have joined us of their own will. We have NPA, NIMASA, Shippers’ Council, and many more who after we have improved our services have written us. That has also improved our capacity. We have accreditation in obstetrics and gynaecology. Initially it was just one college, that is, the West African College of Surgeons who are training their Obstetricians here, now we have had visits from the National Post-Graduate College. And the report we have is that within the next couple of weeks, we are going to get the approval to be able to train.
It is not just the ICU, every bed in this hospital has Oxygen. First, we have recovered all the lost beds, now we are a 200-bedded hospital. Every single bed in this hospital has an Oxygen point. We don’t have a situation, not just in the ICU, anybody on admission is an urgent case until proven otherwise.
We had to sit down with this company and have a maintenance arrangement. The only condition was that we had to be credible in paying them if they must maintain. It was the same problem we had in our dialysis unit. We were owing them huge sums of money, and so the company was not willing to advance us anymore maintenance services that we will not pay for.
Tell our president to stop running to London for medical care then.
