The Nigerian government has backed the establishment of a 20-megawatt solar-hydro hybrid project in Shiroro by Solar Generating Company and other entities to boost electricity supply across the country.

In a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Vice President Kasim Shettima disclosed this during the signing of the joint venture agreement for the establishment of the Shiroro Generating Company, Nigeria's pioneer 20MW on-grid solar-hydro hybrid project and other entities. He noted that the project would serve as a litmus test for the deployment of solar energy onto the national grid.

recalls that electricity consumers have been battling with an abysmal power supply nationwide for the past few months. The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, blamed the gas supply shortage for the epileptic electricity supply in Nigeria.
