Niger Delta Communities Poorest In Nigeria, In Depressing Condition Despite Oil Wealth – Report | Sahara Reporters SERAPNigeria

September 28, 2022A new report by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has revealed how"communities in the Niger Delta continue to live in depressing and deplorable conditions, despite the fact that the wealth derived from these areas is the main economic mainstay for the country".The 82-page report launched on Wednesday in Lagos is titled “We Are All Vulnerable Here: How Lack of Transparency and Accountability is Fuelling Human Rights Violations in the Niger Delta”.

“Extensive social, economic, and environmental degeneration has largely affected the lifestyles and wellbeing of the people of the Niger Delta. Also apparent is the continued disregard and abuse of the human rights of the people of the region.” The human rights lawyer also called on the Nigerian government to release the report of the forensic auditing of the NDDC to enable the oil-rich communities to demand accountability from many contractors who collected huge funds and abandoned development projects in the Niger Delta region.

The report read in part, “While the oil and gas upstream operations span the entire Niger Delta region, the empirical study in this research focuses on the Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states. "The oil and gas companies receive minimal government monitoring in the conduct of their activities; more troubling is the prevalence of oil theft and illegal mining, and refining of crude oil. Such illegal activities make the region crime prone and increase the vulnerability of the inhabitants of the communities.

SERAPNigeria FG has its own OFF THE MIC by ignoring the purpose why NDDC was created/probed & the States have their share States/NDDC attention are mostly Urban areas as they ignore the major Creek communities that produces the oil & gas = criminal sabotage of pipelines for local refineries

SERAPNigeria Rather than hold their leaders past and present accoutable, they will be shouting Buhari as their problem. They had Ibori, they had Uduaghan and currently Okowa.

SERAPNigeria How you lay your bed is how lie on it, who's now overshadowing you, it was the same people spreading this message now once told you, your brother was monopolizing you, now I hope there's a again of common sense in you or better still enjoy as pleased. Ñdewo Niger Delta.

SERAPNigeria The no get sense , the are claiming Niaja delta for mouth while hungry is killing them , let me tell you a story, I did my NYSC in Ezetu community in Bayelsa state 5 hours unto of speed boat 🚣‍♂️ to that primitive local community, do you know that I spend 1 good year without 👉

SERAPNigeria Please don't report this again Igbo Man is their problem.

SERAPNigeria that's best for them, they love and want 'one nigeria', and they have it.

SERAPNigeria Natural resources does not guarantee wealth.

SERAPNigeria It's true, I've been there... That's why I don't pity Nigeria when pipeline get burst...

SERAPNigeria So why not? The Nigeria Delta region is also the most vulnerable to severe weather conditions such as thunderstorms (lightning and flooding). An extreme weather area is automatically a poor area without government support.

SERAPNigeria Their elected representatives have eaten them dry.

SERAPNigeria And they keep allowing people to build refineries outside the region. Refineries should only be located in the region producing oil I see no reason why they're building one in Lagos all out leaders are all silent
