According to him, the economy will grind to a halt like that of Venezuela, should the government accede to Labour’s request, the minister added.
Ngige, who spoke while receiving members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees , led by its National President, Ibrahim Khaleel, in Abuja said: “We cannot allow government to shut down the economy because it wants to pay salaries and wages. The 2020 Budget of N10.3 trillion has N3.8 trillion as personnel cost without overhead. If you add running cost and other incidental costs, the total recurrent budget as presented to the National Assembly has taken 76 per cent.
“People should negotiate freely. If government threatens you in the course of negotiation, it is intimidation. The decision to continue with the negotiation by 2pm today foreclosed the kick-off of the planned nationwide strike by workers over the non-implementation of the minimum wage for workers on Grade Levels seven to 17.
But they can meet their boggos allowance and huge salaries.... If we don't come together to destroy this thing called government of Nigeria i bet Yuh come 2050 Nothing good will happen in this hell fire called a country
The wages of the senior citizen in South Africa and that of the ones in Nigeria is not the same, the senior citizens in Nigeria earn higher than the ones in other countries federal should think of balancing it up, I mean reduction, then check the salaries of the low income earner
The truth is govt can't meet up with the demands of labour on minimum wage, because the gape between the senior citizens salary and the ones earning 18k is too much, those negotiating knows this but don't want to admit it, we talk about other countries wages compare the wages
Sure govt can't ...but we can spend so much to support an over bloated govt, cost of governance raising daily yet the ppl that do the dirty work can't get paid 'healthy wages'
Why?
