NIKO TAVERNISE/NETFLIX © 2021 Streaming giant Netflix has announced a new podcast series that provides behind the scenes details of writer-director Adam McKay’s comedic disaster filmis set to release the first of its six episodes on Jan. 7, 2022. The podcast will provide viewers with a glimpse into the film’s production process as well as an argument on the story’s parallels to how ruling institutions have mishandled the COVID-19 pandemic.

The podcast also features guest appearances by A-list celebrities who also double as members of the film’s sizable ensemble cast, including Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Tyler Perry, Ariana Grande, Timothée Chalamet, Rob Morgan, and Himesh Patel.“It was meant to make fun of, and point to, the forces stopping us from saving ourselves from climate change. 2020, of course, had other plans.

Reviewing the film, Variety chief film critic Peter Debruge described the film’s tone as “grating, even if you don’t have to look far to see some version of what he’s ranting about in the real world.”The film tells the story of how politicians, the media, and the public ignore the reality of a giant comet destined to hit the earth and extinguish all life on the planet.
