The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of North East Development Commission (NEDC), Alkali Goni, has urged journalists to give peacemakers platform to restore tranquility in the region.

He stated this, yesterday, in Maiduguri, Borno State, at a three-day capacity building workshop, organised by NEDC for journalists in the region, on reporting conflict-sensitive issues.

Goni said the purpose of the workshop was to train the participants on the choice of words while reporting conflict in the region. Dr. Nathaniel Danjibo presented a paper on ‘Conflict-sensitive Reporting: The do no Harm Principle’, while the Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, Prof. Umar Pate, presented another on ‘Conflict-sensitive Reporting from the Humanitarian Dimension’.

Pate, who said that conflict and war emanate from the perception of individuals among different heterogeneous people like Nigeria, urged the journalists to work more on ethical standards.
