The senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko, has condemned the killings of soldiers by yet-to-be-identified youths of Okuama community, Ughelli South LGA, in Delta State.

DAILY POST reports that the Nigerian Army on Saturday said some of its personnel who went on a peace mission in the warring Okuama community were killed by the youths. According to the statement by the Army Acting Director, Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, a Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain and 12 soldiers, were killed. While condemning the killings, Nwoko told newsmen in Abuja that it was deeply regrettable that violence had once again plagued Delta.

“The reasons for military intervention, and the resulting casualties on both sides,' he said. He explained that an inclusive investigation should aim to identify long-lasting and permanent solutions to prevent such tragedies in the future. The lawmaker, however, appealed to all parties involved to maintain calm and refrain from resorting to killings and reprisal attacks.
