The President of NECA, Taiwo Adeniyi, made the call at the association’s virtual Annual General Meeting held in Lagos on Tuesday.
He expressed the association’s concern that as a critical stakeholder of the commission it has not had a board in about six years. “It does not send the right signal to stakeholders when government pays lip service to issues of corporate governance and safety of contributors’ funds,” Adeniyi said. The president, who called for urgent reforms, urged the government to fast-track the full implementation of the Oronsaye report and take bolder steps to address the unsustainable cost and structure of governance.
He warned that the cost of governance juxtaposed with dwindling revenue, rising population and shrinking economic fortunes poses danger for the country if not addressed quickly. All rights reserved.
