Determined to improve agricultural development in Agboncha community in Eleme Local Council Area of Rivers State, the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority has requested for land from the community to ensure better crop productivity.
Managing Director of NDBDA, Tonye David-West, said the authority would also provide water to pave way for good irrigation for dry season farming in the area. David-West, who disclosed this when the Paramount Ruler of Agboncha community, HRH Emere Joseph Ngeto, led members of the community Council of Chiefs on a courtesy visit to NDBDA’s office, Port Harcourt, said stable crop yield can help farmers and communities enjoy improved income, as well as reduce the impact the coronavirus pandemic on the people.
“NDBDA is ready to provide mechanised agricultural development in Eleme. We would also provide potable water to the community, as soon as the people of the community make the location available. This will give a good irrigation for dry season farming and increase your income and as well, ensure sufficient food production.”
The NDBDA boss said the management is glad to partner the community to improve their standard of living.He assured that his community would be glad to receive the authority in their community and will be willing to release hectares of land for agricultural development.
