The legitimacy of having two occupants in the Office of the Clerk to the National Assembly is currently the subject of controversial discussion, The PUNCH has learnt.

“As I previously stated, it is administrative work; they are in charge of it. But to us, we know they have violated the Act; they have violated Section 7 of the Constitution, which clearly spells out how clerks should be appointed in the National Assembly. If you check the Civil Service Rules again, you will see it there. You cannot have an acting clerk while the person is still present. But if that person is on a retirement leave, he should go while another person continues.

The letter, addressed to NASC Chairman Ahmed Amshi, was signed and dated November 30, 2022, by Secretary-General Awobita Hammed.

Coalition Rejects Lopsided Appointment In Nigeria’s National Assembly Service Commission | Sahara ReportersA civil society group under the aegis of the Coalition of Civil Society Network (CCSN) has rejected the appointment of Magaji Tambuwal, as the acting Clerk to the National Assembly. The National Assembly Service Commission had appointed Tambuwal to act as a substantial Clerk to the National Assembly following the directive by the Kadi Amshi-led Commission that the former Clerk, Amos Olatunde Ojo should proceed on three months pre-retirement leave on November 14, 2022. However, Tambuwal’s appointment has been criticised by many analysts, groups and individuals. Coalition did not see this lopsided appointment in security structure of Nigeria in Buhari regime since seven and half years ago. An evil people/government of nepotism.
