Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday expressed displeasure over an order allegedly obtained secretly by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to freeze the bank acc

ounts of some of co-defendants of former Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, with whom she is facing N570m fraud charges.

“If you had told me this is what you have done, I wouldn’t have gone ahead at all. The EFCC cannot tell me they don’t have checks and balances.” The prosecuting counsel, Mohammed Abubakar, had at the resumed hearing on Tuesday, indicated that the prosecution was ready for continuation of trial.Oyo-Ita’s counsel, Paul Erokoro , described as a sad development that the EFCC bypassed the court to have the bank accounts of the 4th to 6th defendants frozen.
