The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has lamented that the contract for the rehabilitation of 82-kilometre Alkaleri-Futuk Road, awarded by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari two years ago at the cost of N32 bn, has been abandoned.
The governor, who stated this when he led the management of the North-East Development Commission, led by its Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, on an inspection of the site, lamented that since Buhari visited the site of the oil exploration area in Alkaleri LGA and awarded the road project, nothing had been done.
He said, “You are aware that Mr. President has awarded a contract through the Federal Ministry of Works to the tune of N32bn to rehabilitate this road because of its economic importance, but the contractor has not been mobilized. “I assure you that on this road; in the next one week, we are going to meet with the Minister of Works, I am going to carry this matter to him but certainly, Mr. President has listened to our plea because it is not only for the people of Bauchi, it is for the people of the North-East.
