Aside from vaccine hesitancy, the scarcity of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in vaccination centres across the Lagos metropolis has become a stumbling block to the government’s mass vaccination campaign. Some residents are already lamenting their inability to get the second dose of the Moderna vaccine.

The Moderna vaccine requires that people get a second dose to get the maximum protection it can provide. The second dose of the vaccine may be administered up to six weeks — or 42 days — after the first dose. But for now, a shortage of the vaccine at the vaccination centres is threatening the administration of the second jab. This is happening at the time the state is confronting the fourth wave of the viral pandemic and the emergence of the omicron variant.
